when you are starting a certain business, do you always thing of registering both .com and .net extensions of the domain you want to use for that business?

It is always a good idea to register as many domains and extensions that you might need in the future. They are cheap and once you own it, no one else can take it.

I don’t think it is always necessary to register both the extensions. It is totally dependent on the company to company.

I like only .com extension

I personally do and personally will when I acquire a few more domains for future businesses. If it’s a domain which is already registered as is a premium domain, chances are they both will be up for sale.

I have always bought both com and net domains.

Its not always necessary I usually just use .com unless its a big buisness in which case both .net .com .org and .biz, just to be safe.

well, nowadays .net is becoming more popular and i sometimes see people choosing the .net than a .com

Most of the big sites (Yahoo, Google, etc.) have their addresses on .co.in, not .in, even though .in is twice as more expensive as .co.in

Absolutely no doubt, simply on traffic .co.in beats .in by 10-1 at least.

But will definitely be some good .in sales as it has other uses . Indiana, Indonesia etc.

definitely co.in… around longer and gets more traffic… domainer thinks that because .in is shorter then it’s better…. NOPE…. it’s been branded a bit more being the primary Indian extension… I never buy .in….. it’s a domainer’s extension

Its totally depend on the kind of business, if there is any indian comercial organization which think their website can attract revenue for them then they use .co.in, else if there ant corporate indian company which need website just for their presence on web and to share some info they use .in.

I always thought .co.in was for “companies” mainly..that is why google, yahoo..etc use it..I recently registered my first .co.in so we’ll see how it goes

For some web devolopment .in is the best.
If own a company then co.in is better.

Most of the users were using .co.in before .in was not introduced. But nowadays I have seen many companies are owning .in domains. That is because .in looks better than .co.in

I have came across many good keyword but these are not available in .com but .ca domains available to register. My question is… are they worth it?

You have to be a resident or business in Canada though to register .ca’s

There is great value in .ca. Considering any .ca website I have operating gets anywhere from 25-60% of the traffic from US sources, it’s clear they get equal play on google.com, yahoo, msn etc.

But unless you can meet the residency requirements you can’t register .ca domains.

Canada’s relatively small population – if we were a nation of 100 or 300 million, with the exposure .ca gets now, imagine what the demand for good names would be like, and the online marketing opportunities to a population like that. Not that a huge population would necessarily be good, for other reasons. If .us had the same use by government and business in the US that .ca has in Canada, then .us would be a much more valuable extension.

A smaller challenge is always .com, because it is just as good to use in Canada as .ca. But this is a lesser challenge because it’s hard to find quality names in .com

I don’t see many challenges now, .ca is widely used and accepted in Canada, have a small population but internet penetration is high, and better and easier technology will help ensure more .ca domains get developped – which helps. The same rules apply to .com though, good names will increase in demand, and crappy names will stay crappy.

What does “.fm” stand for? Is it cctld?

.fm stands for FM radio.

FM is Micronesia, it’s ccTLD. TV is Tuvalu. FM also happen to be my initials, so I could not resist buying a domain there.

.fm is not as popular as .tv.
But in my opinion .fm sounds cool and people will hear it soon.
I hope you can keep me up to date about this extension.

I think that .info has failed?

If .info sucked you would be able to catch great names when they drop. This is not always possible now. It’s taken 5 years for .info to get this far. I think the increase in sales is overdue and I hope to see more in the future…especially from me.

No it has not failed. It continues to be registered. People are grabbing .info’s that drop and their sales continue to slowly climb in both volume and price.

No, I see more and more .info’s in the search engines as well – another sign that it is being developed and recognized.

.info sales have really climbed significantly.

By “investing” in the .info extention you’ve bought thousands of premium names to park with ppc, IMHO you’re actually a good part of the reason why the extentions value is low.

Its surprising the amount of traffic to the .infos. When I first registered one, I didnt think it would get any traffic. I’ve never owned any Vietnamese .infos, though Im sure they would receive traffic since that one has over 10K ovt w/ext.

I don’t think so.In fact .info is the most successful “new” gtld expect .mobi.
