However, basic knowledge is necessary in the use of HTML and scripting languages, familiarization with FTP/publishing utilities, knowledge of sending/receiving e-mail and administration of POP accounts, ability to register new domain names as well as edit existing domain records for your customers.

Hello,

I am wanting to start my own hosting business via a Reseller account. Can someone give me some tips, and pointers?

To become a professional reseller isn’t hard.

1) You need to register a Domain
2) Get a reseller account.
3) Build your web hosting website.
Basic sections of a web hosting website:
– About (Breif description about your company. Found in 2003.. etc)
– Network (What Datacenter do you use? Location etc.)
– Hosting Plans (Full description of your plans, prices etc.)
– Support (Ticket System, Forum, Online Live Support, MSN, ICQ Phone etc.)
– Contact Information (Emails, Phone, Address, Online Email Form, etc.)

Money & Time.

You will have to eat/sleep the business 24/7 until you get enough money to hire people to help you.
Then you will need more Money & Time (assuming you have customers) and so it goes ……………..

error when using VS 2005


I am getting a error with the below message when using VS 2005, and then I have to restart VS.
“Microsoft (R) Visual Basic Compiler has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.”
Does any kind of update is required …..Please help resolve this problem

This error comes mainly when the VB runtime istallation is corrupted.To resolve this problem, repair or reinstall Visual Studio. To do this, use one of the following methods, depending on the version of Visual Studio that you have installed.
Visual Studio 2005
1. Insert the Visual Studio 2005 installation CD.
2. Click Change or Remove Visual Studio 2005.
3. Click Next, and then click Repair/Reinstall to start the installation.
4. When the installation has completed, click Finish.

Visual Studio .NET 2003 or Visual Studio .NET 20021. Insert the Visual Studio .NET 2003 or Visual Studio .NET 2002 installation CD.
2. Click Visual Studio .NET.
3. Click Repair/Reinstall to start the installation.
4. When the installation has completed, click Finish.

Advantages of vps over reseller account?


what are the Advantages of vps over reseller account?

Well you do get the advatnage of more CPU power than a reseller, also some companies do free backups and all data is stored on RAID. Of course there is more resonsibilities to look after the server

The VPS does have the advantage of having guaranteed resources that you don’t get with a reseller, however from my experience, selling both VPS and Reseller, non-oversold reseller accounts (servers) get more CPU power than a typical VPS.

VPS you get root access, you get guaranteed resources, and it’s your own server…other users an’t often effect it, however I don’t see how you could say you get more CPU power.

In a VPS your host is resposible for everything. you don’t worry about nothing.

Usually VPS run on better machines, so if you want a nice performance, go with any VPS provider whose server has 8 GB RAM and SCSI drivers. You will be also some additional layers of security.

checkboxes


Hello,when i was working in the Gridview and when i created a template field and added a checkbox so that when the user views the gridview they can select multiple rows. I was having that working great but the check boxes are always equalling false when I use the click even for a button.

Any suggestion to this problem !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi this problem is seen by me also so you make clear you do not bind your GV on each postback in Page_Load() event.

Reseller Hosting tips


Based on many years of experience I just thought of putting together some practical areas which can assist the ones who want to become resellers. I do not believe in lengthy writings and readings. You can look for following in a hosting company you are trying to become a reseller of:-

  1. What kind of support they are offering ie email only, ticketing system, phone support and a toll free phone. Email only is rather questionable.

  2. Do they offer any restrictions to number of accounts in each package, This is a trap to keep you upgrading.

  3. Do they offer over selling, yes it has a disadvantage, yet the way things are frankly new business cannot survive without it.

  4. Do they offer domain registration reseller services as well? This keeps you compact.

  5. Response time to early sales requests. If they are slow in sales cannot be good in support.

  6. Years of experience. Do a whois lookup to see the domain life, OLD IS GOLD, thought the young ones can be even better.

  7. Do they provide your name servers ie ns1.yourdomainname you shall need that.

  8. Does the offering include dedicate IP and SSL, again at some point of time you shall need these.

9.. If you like them DISREAGARD, all the point listed above…

  1. You shall be able to add at least on point to it yourself.

Would like to understand, whats the difference between “4” and “7”.

I dis-agree on point 5, how is sales related to support? Sales team does not mix with support and sales team usually is not 24 hours.

Replaced not worked for me


When i typed the following code the replace function does not worked can anybody tell me why is this so
Code:
dim str as string = “sample”
str.replace(“sample”,”new”)
and the resulting str value is still “sample”. It doesn’t changes to “new”.

please help if any suggestions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hello friend want to tell you strings themselfves are immutable, meaning you can can’t change them. The output of the Replace method is another string. So your code will no be:

Dim result As String
result = str.Replace(“sample”,”new”)

i tried to create a set of form fields in a loop, hence the id’s were something like: fname1, lname1, city1, fname2, lnam2, city2 etc. Now what i need is to loop through the values so that i can store them in a database.
Anyways of doing this plzz suggest!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi , use the and try the below code hope this as answer to ur prob ,this code will return a Control object that you will need to cast into whatever type control you are dealing with. If the control was not found, it will return null .
the code is as:

Making money from reselling web hosting


I want to make money from reselling web hosting. I see two paths: Be an affiliate and get money from simple referrals. Be a reseller and buy services and resell them.
I think the most common misconception is that web hosting gives quick money. I think there are still alot of potential in web hosting so long as there is internet. However, hosting business do not come as easy as buying a reseller account and split it up. It requires a focus and target your audience right to ensure they feel confident in having his data stored in your servers.
If you want to make a living from it you would have to run hundreds or thousands of these services. Considering the required support effort this may not be feasible at all. Especially as a retailer of a reseller.
Affiliate program is more easy then Reseller program.
If u become Reseller,You will also need some sort billing and/or support software to manage your clients.
Web hosting is a business and needs to be aproached as such. You will not get rich quick, and it’s a lot of hard work. If you do not have the capital, hosting knowledge, or desire to run a business then I would recomend you to go with the affiliate route.
I will always recommend newcomers to start with an affiliate program. Reason being you need not worry so much about technical support and after sale support. On top of that it offers you an established name that need not much further advertising.
With an affiliate program you can quit easily, if it no longer suit your need. This is not easy for a reseller to quit a market because you have a string of clients that you have to pass them on.

Note that if you do purchase a reseller plan and resell them, you have to do your own support, sales and billing.

If you use refferal, than you don’t have to worry to much.
