Moving domain account

My hosting account has run out with a hosting company and as I am not pleased with their service I would like to have my website hosted with cpwebhosting.net . Is this easy to do? What would I need from my old hosting company to move to a new one?

Thanks in advance for any help.

follow the steps

Step:
– Come to the old: backup database (download back to localhost)
– Download all files into a directory or in localhost folder
– Come to the new: create new database -> import SQL
– Upload all files into root directory.
– Change nameservers in domain cpanel if you buy domain with outside hosting service company. Or transfer your domain name if you buy domain and hosting with the same company.
– Terminate contract with old service -> Finish.

It depends on the construction of your website (e.g. static HTML, database driven etc.).

static HTML (or otherwise non-database driven) website

1. Download all files from your old hosting company (e.g. via FTP)
2. Ensure all emails are downloaded from the server (e.g. if you just access via webmail, they’ll all be stored on the server, and will be lost when you close your account with the old web host)
3. Select an appropriate hosting provider offering whatever scripting features etc. you require
4. Upload your files (downloaded in step 1) to your new hosting provider
5. Re-create any mailbox(es) etc. that you wish to use with your domain
6. Change the nameservers for your domain to those provided by the new hosting provider – then wait (up to 72 hours) for DNS propagation to complete so that your domain correctly points to your new hosting provider’s server instead of your old one
7. Cancel the hosting service with your old hosting provider

Database driven website

1. Download all files from your old hosting company (e.g. via FTP)
2. Create a backup of the database(s) required for your website (e.g. via phpMyAdmin) – if the database(s) is large then you will need to ask your old hosting company to create a backup for you via shell.
3. (optional)Disable the database driven parts of your website (e.g. turn the forums off) to avoid any changes to the database – any more changes will not be included in the database backup that you just created when you restore it to the new hosting service
4. Ensure all emails are downloaded from the server (e.g. if you just access via webmail, they’ll all be stored on the server, and will be lost when you close your account with the old web host)
5. Select an appropriate hosting provider offering whatever scripting features etc. you require
6. Upload your files (downloaded in step 1) to your new hosting provider
7. Re-create the database(s) using the backup(s) taken in step 2 (e.g. via phpMyAdmin) – if the database(s) is large then you will need to ask your new hosting provider to restore the backup(s) for you via shell.
8. Re-create any mailbox(es) etc. that you wish to use with your domain
9. Change the nameservers for your domain to those provided by the new hosting provider – then wait (up to 72 hours) for DNS propagation to complete so that your domain correctly points to your new hosting provider’s server instead of your old one
10. Cancel the hosting service with your old hosting provider

Type of Hosting for ASP.net

Hi,

Which type of hosting I can choose for hosting my site which is in ASP.net ?

You need to choose windows hostnig. ASP(Active Server Pages) is a server-side (processed by the server) technology for building web sites and is an integral feature of Windows. Active Server Pages are HTML web pages with embedded ASP scripts that reside on the Windows web server before the page is sent to the user.

Enabling Anonymous FTP and Anonymous FTP Upload Facilities

When you enable the Anonymous FTP access, a special directory is automatically created in your root directory. This directory can be accessed by all Internet users to view and download its content by FTP.

Anonymous FTP becomes available only after you create a Virtual FTP server. You can enable or disable Anonymous FTP access either from the FTP page or from the Virtual FTP Host page by clicking the ON/OFF button in the Anonymous FTP
section.
If you want anonymous FTP users to upload files, you have to enable Anonymous FTP Upload Facilities by clicking the ON/OFF button. NOTE: This section will appear on the Virtual FTP Host page only after you have activated Anonymous FTP. When you enable Anonymous FTP Upload Facilities, a special directory is automatically created in the Anonymous FTP directory.

Thankyou for this Axe Solutions, I had no idea that the ANONYMOUS FTP waas accessible by anyone…

CRON Jobs

What are the commonly uses of CRON ? Can these automate some of the routinary tasks like file backup?

Cron jobs are commonly used to schedule commands that should be executed periodically for a certain time.

I know that a lot of people use it to connect to the internet and download email.

What was your worst hosting experience?

I don’t necessarily have any horrible experiences with any hosting service, but I am interested in anybody else that has had such. I have heard a lot of horror stories from other people that have said that they were extrememly overbilled, but that’s usually the extent.

What about yours?

I personally do not have one either. But having worked with hosting companies for a number of years, I find that most people are dis-satisfied because of a number of reasons. They are not getting the service they hoped for. They are not aware of what their package included or did not include. They are being billed for additional traffic that was not included in the package they bought. There are so many things. Then you may just have that you did not know any better (you can get services for less than you are currently paying).

What are your major criteria for choosing a host?

What are your major criteria for choosing a host?

I look at consumer feedback first, because itis important to me that they have a good reputation, and that their clients like them.

Then, I would look at the reliability of the host. I want the best uptime for my money.

Lastly, I would look at price. I don’t want to pay outrageous prices for something I could get for cheaper, if it’s the same quality.

What about you? How would you choose?

There are many things beside what you listed that I look at in a host. Some of those additional things are:

Do they offer the type of hosting that my site requires?

Can they meet the needs of my site if it grows?

How easy it is to change plans?

Can I add additional features without changing plans?

How many servers the service is running?

These are important questions, because some hosting services put certain types accounts all on one server, and then if you switch accounts they may have to transfer your domain to another server. I will not go for something like that, and sometimes dedicated servers are not the answer.

Transfer Domain

Hi,

I want to transfer my domain, to the cpwebhosting, and will go with the linux shared hosting account.

You need to just change the Domain Name Servers (DNS) setting with your current domain registrar.
You will get the mail which states that:

You have chosen to transfer domain “domain-name”. To complete the transfer, you need to contact your Domain registrar and have the DNS information changed; otherwise your site will never be available online.

There must be a transition plan to minimize your site downtime. Changing your DNS settings to point to your new host has a propagation period. I suggest you transfer your files first and once this is complete, that’s the time you change your DNS settings.

That is correct, your new hosting company will provide you with the needed information and you will then have to have it changed in the registrar system so that your domain points to the proper location.

Dedicated IP Address in a Hosting Plan

Can I assign dedicated IP to a accont?

Dedicated IP can be added to the domain as required. All domains start off with shared IP’s (unless you specifically configure your plan otherwise) and then need to be switched to a dedicated IP manually.

You also need to take into account the hosting company may charge additional fees for dedicated IP addresses. be sure to check to see if there are additional fees so that you are not surprised when you are billed.

less expensive hosting services

Please tell me where to find the less expensive hosting services that still have good service and have a decent uptime. I need some information on this very soon as I am looking to get a site up and running.

Windows or Unix hosting

which is better between these two. i have no clue about any of them and would really like someone to explain it to me. Help me please. heard there were these two types but have no clue where to start.
